Women's Ministry (CLCW)

December

At our November meeting Marilyn Hovland asked to resign as co-chair.

We thank her for her loyal help and support. Karen Schafer has graciously accepted this position so we say thanks and we look forward to her help.

We also decided to purchase 8 new tables for the basement activity center and to donate $700.00 to the Good Samaritan Fund.

WELCA is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the ordination of Women of the ELCA in 2011.  Next year (2012) we will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the organization of WELCA itself.  Women from around the world work for a better life for all through this sisterhood.

Check out the pictures of the WELCA triennial Gathering in Spokane, WA last July.  There is a very good report is in the November copy of "Gather"  the women's magazine. More than 2100 women, spouses and children attended.  Activities included the "run, Walk & Roll"
$18,515 raised on this walk, 3.5 gallons of blood was donated, $10, 420 in gift cards and 11,160 minutes of phone cards plus much more listed on page 38 of "Gather"

Our December meeting will be December 15th.  Jean Storlie and Barb Schroeder will be our hostesses.    A Blessed Christmas to all!  - Marlys

 August 2011

Our CLCW will sponsor an in-gathering of school supplies

for Lutheran World Relief during August.

We will try to assemble the kits on September 25th during fellowship.

We will set up an assembly line to make  "School Kits" Following is a list of items needed for the school kits.  As you are out shopping please pick up an item or two.

A complete kit includes the following items:

Four 70-sheet notebooks of wide- or college-ruled paper approximately 8” X 10½”; no loose-leaf paper

One 30-centimeter ruler, or a ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other

One pencil sharpener

One blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well)

Five un-sharpened #2 pencils with erasers; secured with a rubber band

Five ballpoint pens (no gel ink); secured with a rubber band

One box of 16 or 24 crayons

One 2½” eraser

Please give new items only, except where otherwise noted. Sending top quality items shows the greatest care and respect for the dignity of the recipient. Quality items also withstand the harsh conditions that many people who receive these supplies are facing.

Please do not donate items with any religious symbols, messages or with your congregation’s name. LWR provides Quilts and Kits based on need, regardless of religious creed. Religious references may be misinterpreted by the governments of the receiving countries, jeopardizing the delivery to the people who need the items most.

Please do not donate any items decorated with a U.S. flag, patriotic or military symbols, or references to the armed forces, including camouflage. LWR and our overseas partners have access to areas of the world others do not because we are impartial humanitarian organizations. If our intentions are misinterpreted as being politically motivated, our work, our partners and the people we assist could be endangered.

Keep in mind our "Piece Corps" quilting needs material and sheets.  Check at garage sales.

Check out the poster in the fellowship hall showing where our LWR quilts go.  In 2010 LWR Quilts and Kits went to 838,302 people in 24 different countries.

We are still collecting hotel shampoo, lotion etc. for L.S.S. the basket is in the east entryway of the church.
Thank you, Marlys Renstrom

Calvary Lutheran Church Women (CLCW)
24th Annual NE Synodical Women' s Organization Convention

Annette Majeski and

BJ Dalsveen attended.  Janet Martens is on the Conference Board as secretary and Alicia Martens attended as a Scholarship Advisor.  Despite the smaller attendance they report a fun and informative time.  Please look at the bulletin boards for some reports.  It is amazing what the Women of the ELCA (WELCA) do in a year.

The WELCA Triennial Convention is in Seattle this year.  You can watch some of it online.  A schedule is posted .

A New resolution this year is to further our work for homeless youth through Lutheran Social Services.

The Women of the ELCA are introducing a new iPhone app called Daily Grace.  Daily Grace is an on-the-go companion for your journey, offering a faith reflection every day.  In these brief writings you'll encounter God's extravagant, boundless and often surprising grace.  This free app features daily reading and reflections as well as prayers.  Download this app through the Women of the ELCA website (www.womenoftheelca.org), through the bold connections newsletter or through iTunes.                      Marlys Renstrom - 679-0008

From our "Northeastern Lights" newsletter of the Northeastern Minnesota
Synodical Women's Organization comes the following:

This blessing is for you in 2011

May the blessing of light be upon you.  Light on the outside, light on the inside.

With God's sunlight shining on you, may your heart glow with warmth like a turf fire that welcomes friends and strangers alike.

May the light of the Lord shine from your eyes like a candle in the window, welcoming the weary traveler.

May the blessing or God's soft rain be on you falling gently on your head, refreshing your soul with the sweetness of little flowers in early blooming.

May the strength of the winds of heaven bless you, carrying the rain to wash your spirit clean, sparkling after in the sunlight.

May the blessing of God's earth be on you, and as you walk the roads may you always have a kind word for those you meet.

May you understand the strength and power of God in a thunder storm in winter and the quiet beauty of creation in the calm of a summer sunset.

Women of The ELCA Mission Statement
To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.

ONE MISSION - THREE AREAS

Growth:  to provide a variety of learning experiences that strengthen each woman as a whole person, develop her potential, and equip her for ministry.

Sometimes we get so busy we do not stop and listen to God.  In mission growth we need to be persistent in prayer, the relationship between prayer and waiting and the power of prayer to change us.

Community:  to enable each woman to value herself and others as created in God's image and redeemed through Christ; and to build up and celebrate relationships that are global, diverse, and interdependent.

A new way to help our community mission might be to pick a "Prayer Partner." Pick a friend and remember her in prayer everyday, develop a relationship and support her in any way you can.

Action:  to enable women to articulate and act upon their faith as disciples of Christ in all
areas of life.

As we make quilts, school kits, health kits and become involved in our community with
mission projects remember to pray for the people who make the kits and for all less fortunate people who receive our gifts.
"Prayer is an action we can all take! There is no phone charge or shipping expense and it is powerful!"

Quilting - "Piece Corps" is on Wednesday, February 16th from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

CLCW will be on February 17th at 1:00 p.m. - Our hostess' are Marilyn Hoveland and Gerry Montreuil.

Thank you to all who have decorated, served, treated and in any way contributed to our Church Family Holidays.
We do appreciate you!       - Marlys Renstrom, 679-0008
